Community Development Works will host free skills-building trainings

Community Development Works, a program of the Rapides Foundation, announces its free skills-building trainings for Cenla residents and nonprofit organizations. Spring classes run from March 8 to May 10.

CDW training topics are intended for nonprofit staff, board members, community volunteers, and individuals interested in starting a nonprofit organization to better their communities.

The spring schedule includes webinars, in-person workshops, and courses offered in hybrid mode, where participants can choose to attend in person or online. The workshops take place in the Rapides Foundation building in downtown Alexandria. The training schedule also includes a podcast and two videos that can be accessed anytime after registration.

Spring trainings are presented in the following thematic areas: Starting a Nonprofit, Grant Writing, Marketing, and Staff Development.

Spring class titles are as follows:

  • Start-Up Series for Nonprofits: To Be or Not to Be a 501(c)(3); Introduction to fundraising; Fundraising in a new non-profit organization; and From Scratch: Create a Fundraiser.
  • Grant Writing Series: Grant Writing Power Hour; Basic grant writing; Create grant budgets; Grant refused? Review it with guidance from a funder; Ask A Grant Writer Anything (two sessions); Demystifying competitive federal grant writing.
  • Marketing Series: 4 Facebook Advertising Myths; 5 steps to turn a stranger into a lawyer; Create meaningful cause marketing partnerships; Use conversion psychology to get better results.
  • Staff Development Series: New Algorithm for Post-Pandemic Success; Financial management for nonprofit administrators; Forget pecking order; Fueling the Fire: Overcoming Burnout.

Participants have the option of attending all trainings in a series or choosing only those that interest them. Residents who register for a webinar but cannot attend at the designated time will receive a link to watch the course at a later date.

Participants do not need to download any software to take the online courses.

CDW trainings are part of the Rapides Foundation’s Social Environment Initiative and are intended to build the capacity of nonprofit staff and volunteers in Central Louisiana. Training is offered in the spring and fall.
