Insular Foundation Steps Up Support for Community Learning System Alternative Learning Centers
Ambition coupled with determination and fueled by action can be the formula for success, even for those who do not belong to the privileged class or those who may have lost their way. This is true for the more than 200 out-of-school youth who have enrolled at the Tankulan Alternative Learning System-Community Learning Center (ALS-CLC) in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Their ambition is to finish their studies where they left off, because they are convinced that a good education is the path to a better life. This is the reason why the Insular Foundation has chosen Tankulan ALS-CLC as the fourth adopted center to be supported for five years through the donation of the ICT learning package.
In partnership with the Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation (CLFI) and the Department of Education (DepEd), the Insular Foundation recently donated information and communication technology equipment to Tankulan ALS-CLC, its first center adopted in Mindanao and the fourth nationwide. The Foundation donated a laptop, printer, TV, wi-fi router, USB stick, headphones and wi-fi charging cards to this center .
During the online launch of support for Tankulan ALS-CLC, the Executive Director of the Insular Foundation, Ana Maria Soriano, said that through ICT equipment and learning materials, the Foundation gives learners who have stopped l school for one reason or another, a second chance to complete their education. “We continue to believe that a good education is still the key to achieving a better life. Lahat tayo, gustong magkaroon ng mas mabuti and maginhawang buhay,” she said.
Rolly Ortiz, Jr., DepEd’s education program specialist, said the ICT package will help teachers and learners achieve their digital citizenship learning goal.
CLFI Executive Director Jonathan Batangan on his part expressed his gratitude to the Insular Foundation for sharing his advocacy for education for the less privileged. “Thank you for this most valuable partnership. We are truly honored to bring education to different parts of the country with the Insular Foundation.
The Insular Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Insular Life (InLife), first supported the alternative learning system in 2019 through CLFI. The Foundation provides five-year support through the donation of ICT equipment, reproduction of modules and provision of learning materials to Pedro Guevara Elementary School in Manila, Muntinlupa City Jail, Mandaluyong City Women’s Correctional Facility and Tankulan ALS-CLC in Bukidnon. . The three centers in Metro Manila serve nearly 1,000 learners.
